Until recently this sleepy little beach, just 10 minutes north of Chaweng, was one of Samui’s best kept secrets. As Samui has got busier, more guests have discovered the delights of this beautiful bay, with its sweeping view of offshore islands and a little causeway that appears at low tides for access to one of its own.
The beach offers a great selection of bars and restaurants, and the recent rise in popularity has seen the arrival of touts on the beach hiring jetskis – sadly the attendant noise and crazy antics of the riders have changed the laid back feel somewhat, but it is still a great place to relax.
A popular location for older tourists, often travelling on package tours with accommodation included, they dominate the luxury resorts like the Imperial Boathouse, with its wonderful selection of teak barges converted into hotel suites. These resorts offer fine beachside dining with entertainment, such as live bands or Thai dancing, to residents and non-residents alike, and their beautifully appointed facilities sit comfortably beside scruffy bars typified by Island View resort.
This area is moving upmarket and its location close to the airport and the delights of Chaweng and Bophut mean it can only get busier. There are now plenty of well appointed rental villas to choose from in the surrounding hills, some offering exceptional views across the bay and out to Koh Phangan.
